Public Interest News Network (PINN) focuses initially on military veterans and their families, ALICE households other United Way policy priorities in communities where local news deserts and broadband inequities exacerbate the digital divide. We work to align our public interest outreach and communications strategies with the digital equity plans in each state.
For a growing number of U.S. households, which include veterans and their families, financial stability is nothing more than a pipe dream, no matter how hard their members work. These households are ALICE – Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed – earning above the Federal Poverty Level yet struggling to afford basic expenses. PINN works to empower diverse community members, along with the states and cities they populate, to demonstrate their collective resilience and self-determination in helping to shape public policy and benefit from the process. They can play vital roles in building healthy, safe and age-friendly communities in which ALICE families and others can live, work, play and prosper.
